I40/240 construction future plans

I40/240 construction future plans

Postby SteveK » Tue Dec 04, 2012 10:05 am

I saw on one of the local Memphis TV channels this morning that the State has announced year 2013 I40 construction plans that will last 3 years.

The project will reconstruct the I40/240 intersection (“Fly Over”).

The I40 project includes the bridge that crosses the Wolf River that will be rebuilt to 13 lanes.

I’m pretty sure that the construction will have some impact on the MTB trail under I40.

I can’t wait for the three years of traffic jams.

They just finished the flyover! There seems to be no end to Government spending. Why didn't they get it right the last time?

This project will add the next 2 flyover bridges for I-40 east bound and westbound.

From the TDOT web site:

The project includes a four-level interchange, the first of its kind in West Tennessee. Currently, the only similar interchange in Tennessee is located in Nashville at the I-440/I-65 interchange.

Three levels of the four will be completed during Project One. The fourth level ramp/bridge, the tallest of the structures, will be included in Project Two.

Once complete, the fourth level structure will rise more than 70 feet above Sam Cooper Boulevard.

Anticipated earthquake forces were included in the design of all bridges in the project.

Interchange when complete.

I hope the new construction won't effect me riding from high point via the greenline to the WRT system, since this is my main area to ride my bike.

I updated the picture in my previous post. The new construction should have little or no impact on the Greenline. The GL is on the south side of the interchange and the construction is on the north side.

The project underway now on the east side of 240 had to wait for the WG/Humphreys project to rebuild the WG bridge across 240.

The construction is long over due, but 3 years to complete?? It seems like most of the prep work for phase 2 was complete in phase 1, so its hard for me to believe it will take 3 years, but I guess I should expect no less.
