1950's Aerial Photos - Shelby Farms/Lucius Burch Area

Check out http://www.historicaerials.com/ to see the aerial photos. Kinda cool to see the levees (along the Yellow trail) and the old roads in and around the Shelby Farms/Lucius Burch Area from 1956. Just enter "38117" in the search field and click and drag until you see the Wolf River.

I typed in 38139 and scrolled east to Herb Parson Lake.

You can clearly make out the road and buildings of the “Homestead Loop”. Very interesting, thanks for the link.

That's a cool site, interesting to see how some of the trail at Herbs follows the old road going into the Homestead.

I spent some time on the site too. It's really cool. The old areal photos show the old roads and the old homestead area. It does explain the rise in very old Monterery Rd. at the homestead site.

In the 1943 topo map I posted, Monterey Rd. goes straight through where the bottom of the lake is now. It went right past the old homestead site. When the dam was built a road was built around the lake to access the homestead area to replace submerged Monterey Rd.

I always thought that straight section approaching the homestead looked like an old road. Now it is confirmed.

You can also get some pretty good detail of Stanky, so strange seeing the terrain with minimal tree cover. There were a LOT of trails weaving through there even back in the mid-50's.

Find the area you want to see with a current map, then select the older maps on the left without moving the view. Easier to find areas that way.
