Herb Parsons Trail Day Saturday

Postby muddymatt » Tue Apr 05, 2011 9:50 am

Looks like Steve is captining a Trail clearing day at HP for Saturday at 9am. A few responded on another thread.

I should be there with a chain saw and shears.

Just talked to Damon (Tenn Wildlife Offer), as of this morning he is not aware of any specific damage out at Herb. He will keep me informed.

I told him of our plans to work Saturday and as always he is very appreciative.

I might get a chance to do a scouting ride Thursday afternoon.

FWIW, my folks live just a couple of miles from Herb and they said they didn't get much except some heavy rain yesterday....not quite the wind that hit in town and the surrounding areas.

Wow..! I rode out there today. I cleared a bunch of trail blockages that couldn't be ridden over or around, but weighed under 100 lbs. There are at least 16 trees blocking the trail that need a chainsaw to remove. Some are single trees, some are multiples. Most are on the ground, a couple are head high, a few are in between. They are roughly located about a mile from the start (CC) to near the end. The last bridge before the neighborhood is blocked by a tree, but the bridge does not appear to be damaged. The trees range from around 6 inches to 18 inches in diameter. IMHO there is not a full days work for 2 chainsaws and 4 people of moderate strength. But those same 4 people had better pack a lunch... I will be there early on Saturday, but if someone with a chainsaw wants to start at dawn, I'll be there for that...

And I apologize for the bad news, but I categorically deny any guilt

Thanks Butch for the update.

As we get a better idea of what the weather will be like this weekend I will adjust our Saturday morning start time accordingly.

I have been doing maintenance on my chainsaws and both should be in great shape for a weekend of cutting.

See you there. May have an additional pair of hands (NOOB friend) and a chain saw for us. We will also bring a small shovel/spade, shears and snips.

Whats for lunch?

Steve,

I will see you at Herbs. I think the Rippers have it covered without me on Saturday. Busta Move will let me know what is done later Saturday. We can then decide if another WRT day is needed on Sunday.

That's great Brad, the more the better.
My saws are now in "tip top" shape. I can't wait to get started cutting.

(by the way, I might have an even bigger saw after today)

Brad and Steve. I rode Herb's again today. I tested out my new Gerber machete/saw. Moved some more smaller trees well clear of the trail and cleared a lot of vines and creepers. The big trees would not submit, but all have clear portages over or around. I also drained one of the mud pits that holds water, and cleared the last bridge before the neighborhood. The tree dried out and I was able to move both halves off the bridge. It is undamaged. I kept track of time for both days. And we will still be plenty busy on Saturday. Maybe it'll be fun...

Hey, I got a bigger saw today (used). It's a Husky but it's got a .5 hp bigger motor than my other Husky and a 24 inch bar vs 20 inch on the other saw.

I'll bring both saws but do you think the bigger bar will be needed?
