WRT flood clean up Sunday May15, 9:00 @ Walnut Grove

Postby Brad C » Thu May 12, 2011 10:22 pm

The general consensus of opinion is to start clearing the Wolf River Trails on Sunday.

Since the river is still high we will concentrate on the section between Walnut Grove and Germantown. The goal is to find and clear a rideable route between those ends of the trails. Some sections of the yellow trail are seriously eroded and some are covered with up to 2 feet of sand. Those sections will be worked later when we figure out what to do.

I will let Shelby Farms know.

We are going to have some chainsaws. I will being some of the MSTA trail tool collection for clearing reroutes or cleaning up areas.

Cutting/trimming tools or shovel. We have lots of sand to deal with at some point.

Steve K, I want you to have a look around to assess if renting the Dingo for a weekend in the future could do some good with the sand areas. We will have to wait for the ground to dry more and find a way to get it in.

I hope to find a route that will allow trail use without going through the heavy sand or the muddy sections of the blue trail. This may be a zig-zag route using portions of several trails.

I know the next question is hike or bike. The time Larry and I were there we were hiking. Some sections are able to be ridden but there will be some hike-a-bike areas.

I didn't complete today's special assignment at corporate, and so must finish it tomorrow. So... I'll not be there at 9. But I'll try to get there by 11. I'll call Brad when I arrive

It's there anything left to do?

If not I'll go to Herb this morning.

Please report before 8:45AM.

As far as I can tell Outcast has cleared from GTN to the levees. I don't know about the levees themselves. Larry and I had to crawl over a tree on levee 1 on our hike. I do not know if that one has been cut. There has not been a mention of any work between WG east to the levees or north of WG toward the 3 plank bridge. We also need to figure out what the fate of the yellow trail will be.

Plus, I will have frosty beverages and lunch.

Hey everyone, thanks so much for your hard work! Many of us were in AR racing Syllamo and couldn't be here to help. We really appreciate everything that was done!
