Let's finish clearing WRTs North of WG on Saturday morning

Postby rich_k » Mon Jun 13, 2011 6:21 am

I'd like to finish clearing the Blue from WG to the Greenline on Saturday, June 18th, starting at 7 or 8 a.m. The trail should be mostly dry by then and requires relatively light clearing.

Time and conditions allowing, we could also work on the Yellow.

Brad, what do you think? Any takers?

We could. Probably more to clear after that storm around 2:00 today. I have not pushed any trail work the last few weeks because of the unseasonably hot temperatures. About 10 to 12 degrees above "normal" for early June. Prediction for Saturday is "only 94."

We could work it from one end or from both ends to the middle. Some people start at WG and another group start from the greenline if we get enough people for 2 groups. Or is there more clearing needed near the GL? Thoughts on that?

BTW, I have a package of burgers in the freezer yet.

I'll be traveling Saturday so unable to help.

Sunday afternoon I plan to walk the DR to the overgrown section near the old wobbly bridge out at Herb.

Steve, be careful at Herbs on Sunday. The forecast now has higher temperatures.
I zeroed in the map on Herbs and got this:

5 Miles SW Macon TN
Sunday: Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 100.

Thanks Brad for the WX forecast. I’m going to cut the downhill section before the “wobbly” bridge only, taking the shortest route to and from.

And turtle speed not rabbit!

OK, it is official. Trail clearing Saturday morning June 18.

To beat the heat we will be meeting at 7:00.

Meeting place is Walnut Grove trail head.

As I said originally, I'd like to open at least one route between WG and the Greenline, and that is the goal for tomorrow.

The section from WG to 3-plank probably isn't too bad, except at the end close to the 3-plank. But even this isn't too bad if we have a few saws and several helpers to pull brush/small trees out of the way.

The same applies for the section between the power line and Greenline.

So, while it will be hot, we should be able to open this up by late morning before the heat really sets in.

Hopefully, many of you are sick of having this section closed (like me) and are willing to help open it up!

I may make an appearance actually. I'm coming to Memphis this weekend, it just depends on how early I can get off work, which will determine driving to M-town tonight or tomorrow. If I can get out of here and get to Memphis tonight I'll see ya'll in the AM!

Rich K. and I cleared the blue from WG to the 3 plank bridge. We got to exercise our chainsaws quite often. The worst place was a top in the middle of the trail with vines tangled all in it. We spent some time on that one as there was no reroute path available. Even with the recent rain storms there was only a little mud here and there.
