WOW! What a GREAT turnout for Call of the Wolf!!

Postby Brad C » Sat Sep 10, 2011 3:29 pm

The Call of the Wolf trail day was an overwhelming success! We have 20 people on the sign in list and there were more than that present. We had mountain bikers, runners, triathletes, and yes, we had two equestrians (the good ones).

The yellow trail going north now has an open corridor cleared to IMBA recommendations of at least 2 feet to each side of the trail tread. The heaviest sand deposit between WG and the 3 plank bridge is bypassed by a new trail segment that has no sand deposits.

Beyond the 3 plank bridge the trail is clear of fallen trees however the sand deposits are still there. More research on that will be done in the future. The connection between the yellow and blue trails north of the greenline is also now open and clear.

The equestrians, Wes and Jan, (who do not ride on wet trails) worked to the east of levee 2 clearing some fall and moving some trail falling into the river away from the riverbank.

I want to thank everyone who showed up. It was the best attended trail day in MSTA history. But don't get complacent congratulating yourselves, there is more to do in the future. A trail is never finished.

I will have pictures up soon.

And... MSTA gained 3 new members.

=D> There is alot more to do as far as rerouting around sand and we need a bridge over that big ditch on the Yellow that has washed out. Poppy said something about talking to the Eagle Scouts. Brad post up some of the pic's you took.....

If there's one person who doesn't need Red Bull and Dew it's you. :)

I also received a phone call from Laura Adams (SFPC Executive Director) on Sunday. She also thanked us for the volunteer time we invest in Shelby Farms. Laura was at some of the trail heads talking to people. Everyone told her the trails are in great shape and everyone was having fun.

Big Kudos to everyone that made this happen. I wish I could shake each and every one of your hands. I'm kinda excited about being able to ride the Yellow again. I haven't personally seen the results due to illness but the thought has me pawing my bike in anticipation.

A big THANK YOU to all.

I'm especially interested in some before / after comparisons...

Thanks ahead of time!

I couldn't make the work day because of a wedding, but I plan to do some independent clearing. Have the trails north of the greenline been abandoned, or is there some route to summer ave. that I am not aware of? And a big thanks to everyone who did show up, I can't wait to check out the results!

We worked the trails all the way to the "dude bridge" (within sight of I-40) Saturday, before the One Lap ride I cleared all the way to Summer. I rode through there Sunday though and the weeds are out of control heading from the storage building joint to go under the Summer Ave bridge, my legs tell me some stinging nettles are mixed in with weeds.
The Yellow is clear but the are still several beachs so its no easy ride

Other than several beaches it's not a bad ride to Summer although I didn't ride up to the storage building place...I was very surprised to see the Dude bridge still there, so whats the story behind the name dude bridge ???

Look closely at it the next time you see it. Pay close attention to the Summer Ave. side.

If you're REALLY good at searching, you may even find some posts on here about it (or at least what happened to its predecessor, precipitating what you'll see if you follow my instructions above).
