Trail work at Herb during the holidays

To go alone with Evan’s post about trail work at Bayou Point during the holidays I will also be doing similar trail work at Herb.

Brad C and I hiked sections of Tenn. wildlife property that exists close to the lake shore and discovered areas that can be added to existing trail. These new trails are approved by the land manager as adding to lake access for fishermen. These trail additions will of course also add to the overall loop mileage. I will be doing some light chainsaw work and DR bush hogging to expose the new trail tread.

I’ll post at least a day in advance of my intensions. Brad helped me with some ideas for trail placement but I can always use more sets of eyes to get the best “lines” for trail tread.

Great to see so many interested in trail work!! It kinda makes me sad to see the majority of trail work days only after storms when trees are blocking the trail! Yay for adding more trail and trail improvements!!

I made great progress yesterday out at Herb on a loop trail that can truly be called “The Cedar Point Loop”.

I am guessing the loop will add only 2 to 3 hundred yards of new trail but does provide some nice elevation change.

As the name would imply the loop takes the rider down to the lake shore where a large cedar tree shades a beautiful view of the lake. This loop also provides for “bank fishing”, which makes the wildlife officer happy.

This Saturday December 27, 2011 at 9 AM I will finish off the new loop trail by scraping the trail tread with the snow plow attachment to my DR Bush Hog. Two fallen trees will also need to be removed with easy chainsaw work.

If anyone would like to join in and help “manicure” the trail tread you are welcome. I will walk in the DR from the Lakeview Drive trailhead starting at 9 AM. The entrance and exit of “The Cedar Point Loop” can be identified by caution tape.

Steve, what sort of tools do you recommend we bring that would be useful?

The majority of the work will be grooming the trail tread by exposing solid ground. The trail is covered with layers of leaves and loose top soil. My snow plow blade will do most of the work but there is always a need for hand work.

So to answer your question; bring a rake if you have one, I have a fire rake that can you can use.

Thanks for your hard work Steve. If I can get back in town in time (currently up in the land of the Buckeyes visiting family), I may come help ya. Any progress on those spirals you were planning, or is that a different section of trail?

Might this name be a double entendre? Any chance it's also in reference to a certain theme park in Sandusky?
