Msta and Memphis Thunder

Postby dantheman » Fri Dec 16, 2011 12:06 am

I just got a facebook message from a buddy of mine saying that he is the new Memphis Thunder coordinator and he would like to work with us on maybe getting some signage up at Herbs and merging some of our trail work days together. Steve,Brad, etc., What ever happened with the idea of putting some signs up out there? Roy(my buddy) said that he would have to talk with the Memphis Thunder board but he might be able to take care of some of the costs and maybe we could meet in the middle or something. Sounds like a great idea to me for more people to be involved in trail maintenance and to also give runners an idea of how we go about maintaining the trails.(and vise versus) Roy is a general contractor so he has connections on building material and cost of the building of the signs(if we went that route) What are you alls thoughts on this?

From Roy:
''I am the new volunteer coordinator for Memphis thunder and I want to try to get y'all some help and work together on some things in the future. We need to get together soon and talk about it
I may even be able to get some money together for some things. If the board approves it
One idea is to map, and mark the herb trails. There have been alot of trails added and that's awesome. But I have heard of a few people getting lost. So I would like to see about getting some better identification on them. Stuff like that''

Brad is the signage coordinator for Herb.

He has the plan and he has received approval from the land mgr.

Getting a group like the Thunder to contribute to trail maintenence would be a great addition to our volunteer force.

MSTA always appreciates all help at trail work days. I can't send Roy anything because there is no contact information on their web site for the volunteer coordinator position. For the moment Dan, you will have to be the liaison with Memphis Thunder. I am sure there will be some work days needed when the spring storms come through.

As Steve said, I am working on a 3 route system for Herb Parsons. The original trail from years ago which would be the short route, an intermediate length route that will be the outer trail added around 1997, and the 10 mile race route that Steve is developing. Each route will be color coded and marked with standard trail markers as used by BLM, NPS, and many local parks. Of course, all is coordinated with the land manager.

Doing this right will cost a few bucks and take some time. MSTA can do it, but some financial and physical help would be appreciated.

I return by the 3rd or so. I think I may be able to scare up a transit through my superintendent or the union hall.
