WRT chainsawfest Sat. June 16, 7:00 @ Walnut Grove

Postby Brad C » Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:04 am

Just when we thought we could take a weekend off, Monday's storms knocked down trees all over the WRT. Rich_K knows what is down where. We will meet at Walnut Grove and disperse from there once we have a count of saws and helpers.

Shelby Farms management has been notified of our intentions.

I hope you get a good turn out. Tomorrow is my 22nd Anniversary so I will not be helping.

I can't make 7am, but I will be there at 8. Is there any particular order you are attacking these trees or should I just head towards the loud noises?

My suggestion is to ride on the Blue from Walnut Grove toward Germantown, to 5-points, then to the White (Goat), Levee 1 to the Blue, all the way to Gtwn trail head. There are quite a few trees in the early sections so we'll probably be around 5-points or onto the White by 8-8:30 am.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks to everyone who turned out for the Shelby Farms WRT clean up. We got a lot done. The most used trails between WG and GTN are cleaned up.

There are still some trees down. Some are on the yellow trail in the sand filled section between 5 points and levee 1. The others are on the blue trail north of WG near the Greenline.

We did see a lot of runners coming off the trail while getting ready. We reminded many of them that Shelby Farms does not clean up the trails. That is done by volunteers from the off road cycling community.

Ditto. Given that help was also needed at Stanky, we had a great turnout and cut about a dozen trees. The only section between WG and Gtwn that's not open, as Brad indicated, is the sandy Yellow between 5-points and Levee 1. Forgetaboutit!

From the Greenline, the best route to WG right now is Banjo, to Blue, to Levee, to Yellow (3-plank bridge), to WG.

I'll try to clear the downed tree on the Banjo, but it's not a major problem.

Has anyone been on the Blue from WG to the 3-plank? How many trees are down?

Everybody, please bring a hand saw on rides and take a little time to clear the face slappers that we didn't clear today.

If someone will ride the blue from WG to 3 plank and let me know what shape it's in I will ride out there Tuesday with the appropriate implements of reconstruction. Any one else up for Tuesday?

Other than the usual mudholes, that section is good to ride.......there is a section on the blue between the powerline field and the greenline that needs clearing, chainsaw would be best....

Then I'll start Tuesday at the greenline and head towards the powerlines, chainsaw in tow.

Thanks for the offer, but by 6:30 I'll be back home with a cool one. I don't mind the heat- it's the skeeters I can't abide, and that's their dinner time.

There's one fall left to clear on the BLUE south of the Greenline. We started a re-route when my saw ran out of gas. The plan was to cut the old fallen tree near the old trail to create a path through the privet to where the new tree trunk still lies. Would be good to trim some of the privet right and left along the re-route, and cut the tree trunk.

Cleared the blue this morning, and double checked banjo.
