WRT north storm cleanup Saturday 8:00 AM

Postby Brad C » Fri Sep 14, 2012 11:04 am

Meeting at the code enforcement lot at corner of Farm Rd. and Mullins Station at 8:00 Saturday AM. Then riding the greenline to the trails to cut fallen trees on the yellow trail.

Possible additional work if time and weather allow. This would be smoothing out the bedpan gulch and some weed whacking in the power line field.

Sorry about the late planning but the weather forecasts were all over the place for Sat. and Sun.

If the weather does not hold and it is raining in the morning we will back off and wait for another day.

Great (on the Facebook post--just don't buy the stock); the more the merrier.

I'll be there w/ my chainsaw and Ninja Echo weed wacker. Will be good to reclaim the Yellow before the winter rains.

Hopefully we can get in some weedwhacking action, I felt like prey riding across that field last night!

I should also be bringing a new local from Florida, he's mentioned that he's up for some trail work so I'm hoping to get him introduced to the "usuals", just hope it doesn't scare him away! We lost Butch & Matt to the Sunshine State but I think Ed will help make up for losing them.

See you bright and early. Well, early at least.

I have already told my Mom that I would be at her house in the morning for bush trimming, weed whackin, chainsaw cuttin and whatever else she decides I need to do. Trails are more fun to work on....But you know the old saying "If Momma ain't happy, nobody's happy". Thanks in advance for all your hard work.... =D>

The trees between the power line field and Greenline are cleared. Along the way we found a few other possible hazards to cut. At the bedpan bypass we restored an old cut to replace the eroded fall line cut straight down the levee.

To really do that transition correctly an bench cut would have to be made in the side of the levee long enough to have the proper outslope to shed the water off the side instead of down the trail. A grade reversal or two would also help shed the water that tries to follow the trail.

Thanks to Rich K, Larry K, Edward K, Damian, Poppy and Tony for your work today. We met a few hikers today. While there was no "thank you" we did not get yelled at either. A rider who just arrived in Memphis from northern Illinois happened by and now knows about MSTA.

Here are a few pictures that Poppy shot.

Brad forgot to mention, if anyone is riding out there tonight they may run into a couple of Japanese tourists that are looking for "the parking lot". Hopefully they've found it by now.

I banged into a tree while riding out on the blue trail and got this little souvenir. Only the red marks were showing Saturday but there are all kinds of colors this morning.

The good thing is the mishap did not rip my shirt.

Morris has the right idea. Take 2-3 frosty beverages and call us in the morning. You were just determined to hurt yourself yesterday, you had a few cuts & scrapes before we made it to bedpan to cut in the new route.

You think Brad's arm is bad? You should see the tree!

Next time we'll provide an escort on the way out to protect the woods.

We are going to start at the Summer Ave bridge and work our way towards the greenline tomorrow. Last time we rode thru there it had a general assortment of junk in the trail, and the entrance at the bridge is totally overgrown.
