WRTs Yellow Work Day > Sat., Oct. 19 at 8 am > WG trailhead

Postby rich_k » Tue Oct 15, 2013 7:38 pm

Let's get the Wolf River Trails (WRTs) in shape for winter riding!

Brad has received permission from the Park to clear weeds and privet from the Yellow trail from Walnut Grove Road to the 3-plank bridge, and Steve K is locked and loaded. The emphasis will be on the section closest to the 3-plank bridge, north of the "ditch".

If the turnout is strong, one group could clear along the Yellow from 5-points to Levee 1 and further east.

Bring bikes to access work sites.

Place: Under the Walnut Grove Rd. Wolf River Overpass
Date: Saturday, October 19
Time: 8 am

What to bring: weed eaters, machetes, pruning saws/shears, and other types of clippers.

This Work Party will complete MSTA's efforts to improve the Yellow Trail from the Greenline to Walnut Grove.

This will be a great way to meet other trail enthusiasts and privet haters. Rumor has it that the Dallas Cowboy's Cheerleaders will join the party!

Ken,

Where exactly is that tree? On the Blue in the section that parallels the White/Goat? Near Levee 1?

Thanks.

Yes, Sir. Roughly half mile westbound from levee 1 on the blue where it turns almost north. It looked to be at least 2ft in diameter.

Ignore the light rain--the work party is ON!

Radar shows that the light rain is moving out of the region.

Thanks everybody. We have 9 names on the sign in sheet, including a runner who works with Rich. A lot of work got accomplished including the fallen tree near levee 1.

We used Steve's ramps from his truck to get the DR across the ditch half way to the 3-plank bridge. So the yellow trail corridor is opened up all the way to the 3-plank.

John H. and company did weed whacking on the trails south of the WG trail head and cut the fallen tree near levee 1. Not only did John clear the trail for all users he turned the part cut out into a log ride challenge. I will have the pictures up soon.

Here are some pictures of what we did.

We needed to get the DR beyond the ditch going towards to 3 plank bridge. I adapted my BOB trailer to carry the ramps Steve uses to get the DR in and out of his truck.

Here is a close up of the transport system.

The large tree on the blue trail near levee 1 is cleared for all trail users. In addition, there is now a log ride challenge for those who want to give it a try.
