Herbs clean up Sunday, Dec 15, *** CANCELLED ***

Postby Brad C » Fri Dec 13, 2013 12:31 pm

Lake Manager Damon has informed he has reports of the trail being trashed after all the icy weather. He suggested a clean up day for Saturday, but with an inch of rain coming Friday night and lingering into the morning, the trail would be very wet.

I suggested Sunday and Damon agreed, but said 1:00 after church. So there it is. Since this is the land manager setting this up, we should cooperate on this.

Sunday Dec. 15, 1:00, Herbs parking lot. We will disperse from there depending on needs and number of people. According to Damon he has no reports of down trees and says it is mostly trim and pitch work.

Will have chain saw, hand saw, pruning snips and shovels (just in case)
Would like to try to ride but we might be hiking depending on how much rain we get.
I will pull the BOB if you want - bring both of your rear skewers -

NWS is predicting 3/4 to 1 inch overnight, tapering to showers Saturday AM. It may dry a little by Sunday. However, we are 9 inches above normal rain on the east side of town, so bring the hiking shoes.

According to Damon there are a few limbs down so the small saw should do the job. I will throw the fire rakes in for general trash raking.

Here is an update from Damon. Looks like a smaller job than first thought.

I ride the trail today. It is actually not to bad, I don't think a full detail is necessary. If a couple of people would like to walk the trail and throw limbs out of the way that should suffice.
For this round of ice.

We have talked this over and decided to cancel the work day.
The personal weather station on Monterey Rd. near Herbs recorded 1.06 inches over Friday night. It has been cold and damp all day. Water is still running out of people's yards. We think the trail is just too wet to even hike on much less bike. So we are calling the work day off.

It is going to clear off and by mid-week be near 60 degrees so the trail will dry out. If you ride then and see something that needs to be moved, forget trying to push your Strava personal best. Stop and clear the junk from the trail. Be the good mountain biker.
