WRT work day July 11, starting at 8:30

Postby Brad C » Sat Jun 27, 2015 3:30 pm

We will have a trail work day on Saturday July 11th at the Wolf River Trails. Start time is 8:30 AM and will go until around Noon.

The staging area will be at the entrance to Levee 1 off of Moore Road. You will need to enter from the East at Germantown Road and travel to the staging area. The gate traveling from the West will be closed.

Shelby Farms has dumped crushed concrete at levee 1. We will plan on a crew working to fill in low spots on and along the blue trail. We will be working to secure equipment to be used in hauling the crushed concrete. We will use the DR to mow and cut areas along the blue and yellow trail that need trimming.

We will fill in the hole/washed out area on the white/goat trail using the gravel. This is the where the trail comes off the levee and goes down by the lake/pond.

We will fix and relocate several sections of the yellow trail where the river has eroded parts of the trail. We will move the trail back at least 3 -5 feet in these areas and reroute it. There are at least 2 areas identified.

Of course, a lot of this work depends on the number of people who show up for the work day. We will plan on cooking hamburgers and hot dogs depending on the number of people who attend.

MSTA will set up our tent in the staging area, so look for the tent. We will start at 8:30 AM. A qualified member of the MSTA team will be there to instruct everyone, show them how to use the tools properly, and set up the work teams.

Attendees will be encouraged to bring tools such as shovels, saws, weed eaters, rakes, wheel barrows, etc.

Brad,

Thanks to you and others for organizing this! Unfortunately, I'll be out of town on July 11 (in Telluride, CO) and cannot participate. The WRTs can certainly use some TLC, although there has been some localize clearing here and there that has made a big difference.

Are the power line and gas line fields scheduled to be cut anytime soon? The crossings are pretty thick, or soon will be.

Thanks,

Rich K

Hi Rich,

We do have plans to get the fields cut on this trail day. It appears right now we might be able to break into several work groups and tackle different areas.

Thanks

Hey Brad,

That would be great! Sorry that I'll be away. I've been super busy this year w/ work and have not be able to do trail work, so I really appreciate everyone's efforts. Maybe Brad can find out if the fields are planned for cutting, saving you guys the effort. I'll try to pitch in later in the summer.

Thanks to you an the other J-men,

Rich K.
