WRT Trail Day Saturday, October 10, @ 8:30

Postby Brad C » Mon Oct 05, 2015 4:11 pm

Trail day Saturday October 10, starting at 8:30. Back in the summer Shelby Farms obtained the load of gravel (crushed concrete) in the picture below. We used some of it in July but a lot remains. Agricenter has an event coming that uses levee 1 where the gravel is. They contacted Shelby Farms to ask us to complete using the gravel so the levee is clear. We also need to use materials when they are obtained for our use at no charge to MSTA.

This is a dirt working day. The tools needed are wheelbarrows, shovels, and other dirt working tools. MSTA will have a supply of special dirt working tools on hand. The job is to use the gravel to fill holes along the levee and if any is left on the white trail. Then we get to use the Burgers that are taking up room in my freezer.

I looked at the weather and event schedule and October 10, looks the best. The forecast rain Friday night has diminished to only a slight chance.

We will meet at Moore Rd. and Levee 1. If coming in a vehicle enter from Germantown Rd because the west gate will be closed and locked.

We had a good trail day Saturday. The pile of gravel is now distributed into places that needed fill work. The levee is cleared off so trail users do not have to go around it. MSTA members on hand were Poppy, Tony, Steve, Ed, and me. In addition, Patrick Culligan from Memphis Outdoors Festival stopped by to help. Tulio from MHBC also stopped by after leading a morning ride. Tulio thought he was just going to say “hi” but he ended up with a shovel too.

Thanks, everyone, for your hard work! I saw the gravel work last night!

Sorry I couldn't join in the fun but I was in CT on the weekend.
